Clavis 2 Official Book Launch

cv2l_12The release of the second edition of CLAVIS Journal was celebrated in Los Angeles, with an official launch party held on Saturday November 16, 2013 at Anna Meliksetian | MJBriggs Gallery.

Among the pleasures of the night were opening remarks by CLAVIS co-editor William Kiesel, followed by a presentation by Dr. Gordan Djurdjevic on the Lady Babalon, the subject of his essay “Our Lady Babalon and Her Cup of Fornications: Approaches to a Thelemic Goddess” in CLAVIS 2. As ever, Dr. Djurdjevic delivered a stunning model of esoteric discourse, to which nearly every attendee in the packed gallery would later attest.

Also marking the night with us were several of the remarkable artists whose work appears in our second volume and adorned the walls of the gallery. To Tom Allen, Billy Davis, Raven Ebner, and Carlos Melgoza, our thanks for your singular company. We unveiled work as well from Carolyn Hamilton-Giles, Jamie Sweetman, and Benjamin Vierling, who were there in glorious art and spirit.

Clavis Volume 2 LaunchAs the night went on, over 100 guests joined in the celebration of occult art, Three Hands Press, Ouroboros Press, and indeed CLAVIS 1 and 2. Fine editions were sold, refreshments were savored, and fellowship was exalted. We extend our gratitude to Anna and Michael of Anna Meliksetian and MJBriggs for their brilliant hospitality and exceptional gallery space. Special thanks also go to Asuncion Ridge Vineyards for providing the exquisite vintages served.

Feedback on our recent release has been spirited and positive, and we remain steadfast in our dedication to presenting the work of the most cogent esoteric authors and artists of our time. We look forward to the future events that will bring us together in celebration of the art magical.

The lecture will both include a historical summary of the Zothyrian culture and its futuristic initiatory philosophies, core praxes and spiritual mystagogues, including Choronzon, Doctor Kammamori and Zothyrius. Jakobsson and Bertiaux are collaborating on a book, The Leviathan Diaries, for future publication.

CLAVIS Journal 1 Launch Party

Clavis Journal Issue 1CLAVIS Journal held its Maiden Edition launch party in Seattle on Tuesday March 26, 2013 at the Hiawatha Lofts Art Space to a standing room only audience of 89 attendees. Artist and typographer Joseph Uccello of Viatorium Press gave a short talk entitled “Treading the Codex Naturae: Esoteric Ideas on Book Design and Printing,” together with refreshments and music by Kora player Chet Korpt. CLAVIS co-editors William Kiesel and Daniel Schulke also spoke briefly about the origins and future compass of the journal.

Following on a tradition of four years of international Occult Art exhibitions established by the Esoteric Book Conference in 2009, the launch also showcased the work of four artists from Europe, England, and the United States whose work appears in CLAVIS 1. The original works of Hagen Von Tulien, Rima Staines, Benjamin Vierling, and Joseph Uccello, were exhibited to an appreciative crowd.

Celebrating the diversity of esoteric image and text in over the last five centuries, the evening capped the much anticipated release of the journal’s inaugural issue and augured well for its future. We have been flooded with kind words from the attendees, as well as those who have purchased the journal but could not attend, and wish to assure all that future events will accompany the release of CLAVIS.
